Doctor's Day special ( ડોક્ટર ડે સ્પેશિયલ)
Today is the 1st July is dedicated to the soldiers of the country who are given the status of God in India. But Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birthday is celebrated (1july, 1882) as Doctor's Day. The purpose behind celebrating Doctor's Day is to remember the work that doctors have done for the people and the sacrifices they have made.
This is the man who gave importance to mental and physical health in India. And this was the time when India was a slave to the British. And he clearly believed that if a young country like India was to prosper, its citizens must be physically and mentally healthy. So today it becomes necessary to remember Bidhan Chandra Roy, the pioneer of all doctors and the founder of health in modern India.
Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on 1 July 1882 in Patna. He was very close to his mother but his mother died when he was 14 years old. He studied medicine at the University of Calcutta and applied for admission to Bartholomew's Hospital in London for further studies. But the dean of this hospital refused to give admission as they did not allow anyone from Asia to study in this hospital. But the assertive Vidhan Chandra Roy held meetings with him for 30 consecutive days and then he was allowed to study. And he became a member of MRCP (member of royal college of physician) and FRCS (fellow of royal college of surgeon). So far, there have been very few Indians who have become a member of both.
He was also a friend of Gandhiji and his doctor. An occasion between him and Gandhiji was very much in discussion.In 1933 Gandhiji's health suddenly deteriorated while he was on a hunger strike in Pune during the anti-British agitation but he did not agree to be treated with medicine as he was an advocate of Swadeshi. So Doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy was called there. Gandhiji asked the doctor why should I take such a foreign medicine and would you treat four hundraded million other people like me for free !! Gandhiji satirized. Then the doctor gave a very beautiful answer saying No Gandhiji, I could not treat all patients free. But I came… not to treat Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, but to treat “him” who to me represents the four hundred million people of my country.” Gandhiji then agreed with him and sought treatment.
He was a doctor as well as a political leader. Gandhiji forced him then, he got involved in politics in the 1925 and made a great contribution in giving freedom to the country. In 1948 he became the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. During this time he started the first mental health institute. Hospital for infectious disease started. At that time, India was suffering from TB. He played a very important role in starting medical institutes in India like Jadavpur TB. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, Victoria Institute (College), Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for Women and Children. She also opened centers for women, where they could receive training in social work and nursing.
In addition, in 1961, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's largest civilized award. And now the biggest award given to a doctor is given in the name of Doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy. And this award is given to the doctor on 1st July every year.
Such a great personality died on July 1, 1962. But this great virtue will live on in the heart of every doctor as an inspiration.🙏🙏
But today the whole world is going through an epidemic called covid-19. The contribution of doctors in fighting this epidemic is invaluable as no one can be forgotten as doctors are selflessly serving the country regardless of their lives.
So the theme of this year's Doctor's Day is to spread awareness about the epidemic. "Lessen the Mortality of COVID-19" this includes awareness about asymptomatic hypoxia and early aggressive therapy.
Salutations from all over the country to every doctor who served the country in such a terrible situation like this covid-19 and who was martyred while serving. We can never repay the debt of this doctor but he can be respected.

આજનો દિવસ એટલે કે ૧લી જુલાઇ એ દેશના એવા સેનાની ઓ ને સમર્પિત છે કે જેને ભારત દેશમાં ભગવાનનો દરજ્જો આપવામાં આવે છે. પરંતુ આ સન્માન અપાવનાર વ્યક્તિ એટલે બીધાન ચંદ્ર રોય કે જેમના જન્મદિવસને (1july,1882) ડોક્ટર્સ ડે તરીકે મનાવવામાં આવે છે. ડૉક્ટર્સ ડે ઉજવવા પાછળનો હેતુ ડોક્ટરે પ્રજા માટે કરેલા કાર્યો અને આપેલા બલીદાનો ને યાદ કરવાનો છે.
આ એ વ્યક્તિ છે એ જેમને ભારતમાં માનસિક અને શારીરિક સ્વાસ્થ્યને મહત્વ આપ્યું. અને આ તે સમય હતો તે જ્યારે ભારત અંગ્રેજોનો ગુલામ હતો. અને તેમનું સ્પષ્ટપણે માનવું હતું કે ભારત જેવા યુવા દેશને પ્રગતિ કરવી હોય તો તે દેશના નાગરિક શારીરિક અને માનસિક રીતે સંપૂર્ણ સ્વસ્થ હોવા જોઈએ. તો આજે બધા જ ડોક્ટર્સ ના પ્રણેતા અને આધુનિક ભારતમાં આરોગ્યની નીવ રાખનાર એવા બીધાન ચંદ્ર રોય ને યાદ કરવા આવશ્યક બની જાય છે.
વિધાન ચંદ્ર રોય નો જન્મ 1જુલાઈ 1882 માં પટનામાં થયો હતો. તેઓ તેમની માતાના ખૂબ જ નજીક હતા પરંતુ તેઓ જ્યારે 14 વરસના હતા ત્યારે તેમની માતાનું અવસાન થઈ ગયું હતું. તેમને મેડિકલનો અભ્યાસ કલકત્તાની યુનિવર્સિટીમાંથી કર્યો અને વધુ અભ્યાસ કરવા માટે લન્ડનની બર્થોલોમ્યુની હોસ્પિટલમાં એડમિશન માટે અપ્લાય કર્યું. પરંતુ આ હોસ્પિટલ ના ડીને એડમિશન આપવાથી ઇનકાર કરી દીધો તેઓ એશિયાના કોઈપણ વ્યક્તિને આ હોસ્પિટલમાં અભ્યાસ કરવા માટેની પરવાનગી આપતા નહોતા. પરંતુ દ્રઢ નિશ્ચયી વિધાન ચંદ્ર રોય સતત 30 દિવસ સુધી તેમની સાથે બેઠકો કરી અને ત્યારબાદ તેમને અભ્યાસ કરવાની પરવાનગી આપવામાં આવી. અને તેઓ MRCP (member of royal College of physician) અને FRCS(fellow of royal College of surgeon) ના સદસ્ય બન્યા. અત્યાર સુધી આ બંનેના એક સાથે સદસ્ય બનનારા ભારતીય ખૂબ જ ઓછા થયા છે.
તેઓ ગાંધીજીના મિત્ર અને તેમના ડોક્ટર પણ હતા. તેમનો અને ગાંધીજીનો એક પ્રસંગ ખુબ જ ચર્ચામાં રહ્યો હતો. ૧૯૩૩ જ્યારે અંગ્રેજો સામે આંદોલન ચાલતા હતા ત્યારે ગાંધીજી પુનામાં અનસન આંદોલન પર બેઠા હતા તે દરમિયાન તેમની અચાનક તબિયત બગડી પરંતુ તે સ્વદેશીના હિમાયતી હોવાથી દવા સાથે ઉપચાર કરાવવા સહમત ન હતા. તેથી ડોક્ટર બિધાન ચંદ્ર રોય ને ત્યાં બોલાવવામાં આવ્યા. ગાંધીજીએ ડોક્ટર સાહેબને કહ્યું હું તમારી આવી વિદેશી દવા કેમ કરું અને શું તમે મારી જેમ બીજા ચાર લાખ લોકોની મફતમાં સારવાર કરશો!! ગાંધીજીએ વ્યંગ કર્યો. ત્યારે ડોક્ટરે ખૂબ જ સુંદર ઉત્તર આપતા કહ્યું હું ચાર લાખ લોકોની તો મફતમાં સારવાર ન કરી શકુ પરંતુ આ ચાર લાખ લોકોની જેના પર ઉમ્મીદ છે તેની સારવાર હું ચોક્કસ મુફ્ત માં કરી શકુ.!! ત્યારબાદ ગાંધીજી એમની વાત સાથે સહમત થયા અને ઉપચાર કરાવ્યો.
તેઓ ડોક્ટરની સાથે સાથે રાજકારણીય નેતા પણ હતા . ગાંધીજીના કહેવાથી તેઓ એ ૧૯૨૫માં રાજકારણમાં ઝંપલાવ્યું અને દેશને આઝાદી અપાવવામાં ઘણો મોટો ફાળો આપ્યો. ૧૯૪૮માં તેઓ પશ્ચિમ બંગાળના બીજા મુખ્યમંત્રી બન્યા. આ દરમિયાન તેમને સૌપ્રથમ માનસિક સ્વાસ્થ્ય સંસ્થાની શરૂઆત કરી. ચેપી રોગ માટેની હોસ્પિટલ ની શરૂઆત કરાઈ. તે સમયે ભારત ટી.બીથી પીડાતો હતો. તેમને ભારતમાં તબીબી સંસ્થાઓ ની શરુઆત કરવામાં ખૂબ જ મહત્વનો ભાગ ભજવ્યો જેવીકે ,જાદવપુર ટી.બી. હોસ્પિટલ, ચિતરંજન સેવા સદન, કમલા નહેરુ મેમોરિયલ હોસ્પિટલ, વિક્ટોરિયા સંસ્થા (કોલેજ), ચિતરંજન કેન્સર હોસ્પિટલ અને મહિલાઓ અને બાળકો માટે ચિતરંજન સેવા સદન. તેમણે મહિલાઓ માટે કેન્દ્રો પણ ખોલ્યા, જ્યાં તેઓ સામાજિક કાર્ય અને નર્સિંગની તાલીમ લઈ શકે
આ ઉપરાંત ૧૯૬૧માં તેમને ભારતના સૌથી મોટો એવોર્ડ ભારત રત્નથી સન્માનિત કરવામાં આવ્યા. અને અત્યારે ડોક્ટર ને આપવામાં આવતો સૌથી મોટો એવોર્ડ એ ડોક્ટર વિધાન ચંદ્ર રોય ના નામથી અપાય છે. અને આ એવોર્ડ દર વર્ષે ૧લી જુલાઈએ આપી ડોક્ટરને સન્માનિત કરવામાં આવે છે.
આવી મહાન વિભૂતિ ૧જુલાઈ 1962 ના રોજ અવસાન પામ્યા. પરંતુ આ મહાન વિભૂતિ દરેક ડોક્ટરના હૃદયમાં પ્રેરણા રૂપે જીવિત રહેશે.🙏🙏
પરંતુ આ આજે સમગ્ર વિશ્વ covid-19 નામ ની મહામારી માંથી પસાર થઇ રહ્યો છે. આ મહામારી સામે લડવામાં ડોક્ટર નું યોગદાન અમૂલ્ય છે જે પ્રમાણે ડોક્ટર નિસ્વાર્થ ભાવે પોતાના જીવનની પરવા કર્યા વગર દેશની સેવા કરી રહ્યા છે તે કોઈ પણ મૂલ્ય ભૂલી શકાય તેમ નથી.
તેથી આ વર્ષે ડોક્ટર ડે ની થીમ પણ આ મહામારી પ્રત્યે જાગૃતિ ફેલાવવા માટેની છે."lessen the mortality of COVID-19" જેમાં કોઈપણ પ્રકારના લક્ષ્ણ વગર શ્વાસ લેવામાંાં તકલીફ પડવી અને તે માટે early aggressive therapy તે માટેની જાગૃતિ ફેલાવવા માટે નો પણ છે.
આ covid-19 જેવી ભયંકર પરિસ્થિતિમાં દેશની સેવા કરનાર અને સેવા કરતા-કરતા શહીદ થનારા દરેક ડોક્ટરને સમગ્ર દેશ તરફથી સત સત વંદન. આપણે આ ડોક્ટર નું ઋણ ક્યારેય ચૂકવી શકીએ નહીં પરંતુ તેમનો આદર સત્કાર તો અવશ્ય જ કરી શકાયે.
